>>100745160>>100745246Lets look at some context as well; in the 60s-70s, kids cartoons and how they were on TV was very different than it was today. Lets say CBS got Scooby Doo and would air it on Saturday mornings, right? It becomes a huge hit. ABC and NCB would also want some smashing cartoon hit, so they would pay Hanna Barbera to make a cartoon similar to Scooby Doo for their channel, hence all the knock offs like Jabber Jaw, Captain Caveman, etc.
Basically, HB only made so many copycat cartoons of their own works because other networks wanted their own.
Another thing I'll give HB is even though their style is deliberately made for limited animation, the characters still have clear anatomy and are generally on-model most of the time. When these characters were given bigger animation budgets for say movies or commercials, they looked damn fantastic. Even when the animation was lacking in their cartoons, the writing usually made up for it (an interesting case is Top Cat, whose dub in Mexico is apparently insanely popular).
And as others have said, HB was one studio with their own style, not a dozen studios trying to imitate each other.
