>>100704791They're very similar. The both share worm mouths, bean heads, noodle arms and fingers, either pastel or over-saturated palettes, and simplified anatomy. But there are differences:
>tumblrization:- blobby silhouettes (with a focus on "body diversity")
- lumpy or geometric noses (used to be coloured noses, but that's less common now)
- race-swapping or other ways of retooling characters into visible minorities
- deliberately "ugly" features, like vitiligo or heavy freckling
- trendy hair (side cuts, wild colours, etc.)
>CalArtsing:- reduction of shapes and designs down to their simplest possible form
- minimal use of sharp lines and points
- predominantly circular eyes
- minimal use of "sexualized" design components (no clearly delineated breasts, more skin covered, few classically handsome men with the inverted V body shape)
- lots of would-be retro '80s elements
Obviously there a lot of overlap, and not every style conforms 100% (like OKKO, which has some pretty manly men and cheesecakey women).
