>>100417303Michelle’s parents do die, but it’s kinda glossed over in favor of having her get really ill and almost die and then get all better.
I haven’t seen that movie in forever, but sometimes I think about it and recall that it ends with Michelle getting cured and everybody celebrates and it ends on a happy note, and it just seems kinda odd to me in hindsight because Michelle had no time to acknowledge her parents’ death before she became comatose, and she just wakes up at the end and everyone acts like everything’s fine, while we never see her take any time to mourn. We don’t see her ask where her parents are.
I think an even better example that’s kinda similar but handles it a little better is The Land Before Time. Even though Little Foot has this big adventure he needs to go on for the majority of the film, there’s still a scene that takes place like the day after his mom dies that shows him still absolutely crushed and near inconsolable, and he needs to get a pep talk telling him he’s still gotta get a move on and he can’t just keep sitting around crying because he has shit to do, and that scene exists solely just to tell us he didn’t immediately get over it.
