So Darkwing being a TVshow is kind of a bummer. But I suspect/hope they're gonna do something with that later where he comes out of retirement or something. That said. Gizmoduck was pretty good.

Wait is Disney STILL releasing Season 1 out of Order

Last week I learned Spear of Selene was fucking EPISODE 10 which in hindsight it doesn't even matter because the 2 episodes that canonically come after it were both filler where nothing really significant happens other then "Oh...Scrooge is actual the Head Treasurer of the whole city and charges everyone rent."

But other then that its the Steven Universe effect where 1 plot relevant episode 5 FILLER EPISODES

In the original series, Darkwing had an in-universe comic book based on him (which he hated so much that he decided to personally rewrite it). I think if this version of Darkwing exists outside of the TV show, it's a similar deal. Except Darkwing is such an egotist that he decided to take on a third identity just to play himself on TV.

Out of all of the Disney Afternoon shows, Darkwing Duck is the one that I think would work best as a reboot. Not sure how they would reconcile Launchpads appearance in Ducktales with his role in DWD however.

Don't forget that at the start of the series, DW is already old. He's got forehead wrinkles and a paunch, he throws his back out and wears sweater vests.

The one in this episode is young and fit. That means that if they bring him in with say the actor--Jim Starling, a nod to Jim Cummings the VA--he'd look more like his old design.

But I think that if they do a real crossover, it'll be multiverse.

Could be that the Darkwing Duck characters are going to appear later in the season again and Liquidator will have lines then (Burton probably did any sort of grunting for Liquidator and then voiced a background character or two in this episode).

Also, thank god Burton is beloved so much by Disney; they're the only studio that hires him anymore and I really love his voices. (but it's a shame Jack Angel couldn't reprise the part; I know he's super old, but that just makes it sadder).

I can buy it since he's similar to Gyro in the role he serves in the Duckverse/Disneyverse and they couldn't find much for him to do that wouldn't eat on Gyro's screentime, especiallly considering Reboot Gyro's personality that Ludwig is also similar to.

The animation is prett good. People often mistake detail for good animation.

That said, naturally we'll never get the hand drawn high quality animation of disney's 90s afternoon shows back. New ducktales is literally the best we could've hoped for, in terms of animation.

Launchpad's character demonstrates that the writers for this show aren't comfortable with writing notable male characters who aren't either incompetent or unpleasant. Scrooge and Gladstone are more like their comic versions than last show's (which were much nicer than the comic's), Gyro's more rude, Huey and Louie are more bratty, and Launchpad is more non-functional than last time.

This is like when people keep asking if Jim is voicing him. The man showed up in the Ducktales commercial holding a #DarkwingDuck sign. He and Quackerjack's VA spoke openly about recording for Ducktales in 2016.

Same. I like intentionally annoying characters who no one in the show tolerates or respects. I also like the combination of his 'aggravating millennial' persona with this genuinely competent sinister streak.
He's not really evil in the same way that Glomgold is, he doesn't hold grudges against anyone because he doesn't care about them. He's not as much evil as much selfish and apathetic.

I feel like a big issue with the show is trying to force in so much stuff from the old series in the first season when the old Disney Afternoon stuff spent years building this up. For example in the old show Gizmoduck didn't show up till season 2. Season one had over 60 episodes. Not to mention all the attempts at having a big narrative to pander to the lore fags because heaven forbid a show be episodic these days

With DWD one thing is (super oldfag here) DWD had a much bigger "fandom" as we think of it today than Ducktales. DWD aired at the dawn of the Internet and actually had proto versions of all the things we see here today, with fan theories and discussions, fan art, and fanfiction. The original Ducktales came a bit too early for all that and also appealed to a younger and less "nerdy" audience. DWD held more appeal to older kids too and adults who still watched cartoons and crossover from capeshit fans for the superhero parody angle.

I just remembered that there's an old episode which depicts Darkwing as an actor on set, but his adventures are somehow still real.
Maybe the 'in-universe show' idea will be based off that, all set up by S.H.U.S.H as a coverup.

Otherwise there's another episode where Darkwing Duck enters a universe where he's a cartoon character. The creator having some sort of helmet that let's him perceive Darkwing's adventures in another dimension, letting him adapt those adventures into the cartoon.
Maybe they'll stick with Stones idea of Ducktales and Darkwing being set in alternate universes, with the Ducktales DW cartoon reflecting the real adventures of the alternate universe. Later on they'll be connected ala the Negaverse.

I remember that, the show got kind of meta sometimes. Darkwing was in a tv show but also himself, there were humans, and Darkwing had to disguise himself as Donald Duck to get onto his own set. It was a bizarre episode.

This must be superfrustrating.
Being the world's most awesome genius, capable of building autonomous supersmart robots that would revolutionize the entire world more than steam industry, digitization and nuclear energy together ever would, but never being able to use them because they simply are too dangerous, is just soulcrushingly annoying.
Also, he's so smart, he can even build time machines. But they become sentient and evil as well.
Everything that Gyro touches becomes evil.

As for my nitpicky critique of this episode, I'm kinda miffled that the reformed lil bulb from "The Great Dime Chase" wasn't around.
There was only a Beaks Tech bulb.

My guess on how they'll get Darkwing into the show:

Scrooge and Launchpad take the kids to a new TV museum opening up in St. Canard. Launchpad is fanboying over the Darkwing Duck paraphernalia on display, but Scrooge hates being in St. Canard, because of the city's high density of costumed supervillains.

Almost as if in response to Scrooge's complaint, the museum is attacked by film-themed criminal mastermind Arturo Tuskernini. He locks down the building and holds everyone hostage.

Drake Mallard, Agent of S.H.U.S.H., arrives on the scene, under orders to rescue Scrooge and his family. But in true cowboy cop fashion, Mallard disobeys his orders and instead teams up with Scrooge to rescue everyone in the museum and capture Tuskernini.

Mallard is fired from his position at S.H.U.S.H., but receives a mysterious note instructing him to go to a secret room inside the St. Canard bridge. There, he finds a state of the art crime computer, a motorcycle, gadgets of various use, several million dollars in cash, and the Darkwing Duck costume that went missing from the museum during the attack and was never recovered. Inside the costume's pocket is another note.

I think it's more "Less tweens, more fluid hand-drawn animation" than actually wanting to go back to traditional ink & paint animation. And while it's obvious at times the show is using tweening, it uses just as much frame-by-frame animation as well.

The original DT was always seen as kind of an inferior version of the Duck comics and didn't really have the kind of devotion and cult following that Darkwing Duck had. Mind you rewatching them as an adult both series don't seem very good, but tastes have changed and they're now dated. Though I feel characters like Doofus and Bubba Duck are just always bad.

I mean yes because Darkwing Duck had crossover episodes where Gizomoduck showed up so it wouldn't take anything to mention there's some hero in another city who comes in for one episode to fight a bad guy in Duckberg or something. Also the Webby conspiracy board mentioned FOWL I think so people thought it would be like the original where they seemed to be in the same universe. I know the creator later said they weren't a blah blah but a kid watching the Disney Afternoon in the 90s assumed they were in the same universe cause they shared characters.

It's okay to be disappointed, and also maybe there will be some twist anyway. As long as people remember it is just a show and don't harass the creators and other ridiculous crap like some people do now. You can not like how a show handles something as long as you don't act like a psychopath about it. It's just a cartoon.

Which is fine and all when his rival is exactly the same, but DT 2017 Fenton is a genuinely nice go-getter and bullying him would make DW seem really fucking mean and unlikable. Really hard to answer that since we have no idea if "this" Darkwing even exists, much less what his personality might be.

The actor so far seems more like some sort of "demands hardcore realism" type that might be okay to be humiliated if he gets the perfect shot or something strange like that. He wouldn't have the same background as the original character or anything. Drake wasn't an actor (except in the strange episodes already discussed above) so he never even got the validation of once having had a show.

I mean, people call Webby Mabel, but aside from the grappling hook and loudness she's nothing like her. Mabel was cute and girly, Webby is an action girl with some autism.
Not to mention this show has non-useless adults as well. Scrooge is often sidelined to the B plot, but can stand on his own. And in the latest episode it was Launchpad and Fenton that were the focus, only duckling present was Dewey as Launchpad's sidekick.

In effect though, the problem is however firstly that nobody else in the entire world is really smart enough to solve the problem in the first place, and that everyone wants to make profit, so you have scum like Beaks, aka Apple not even giving a shit about providing a solution at all.
Gyro is also under stress because it's HE who must provide results, or the buzzards from the boards of directors will cut funds. Only Scrooge's influence keeps Gyro in the work.

But even Scrooge is still first and foremost a businessman, so if necessary, he will buy (apparently functional) products from a rival enterprise, if they had the superior product. That's just how business works.

Are the new episodes even that good? I got burnt out pretty hard from the first part of season one. The "mummy" episode, which I was pretty hype for before I saw it and the lack of Scrooge and Donalad just fucking killed my enthusiasm to even try and watch any more.
