She told me that back then, black people were seen as comedic/cartoony people to make fun of and parody. Alot of white people didn't think that non-white people were smart as white people due to bullshit theories and false information that was taught in schools. Also being an asshole and assuming people's attitudes based on one person they saw was the status quo of basic American attitudes.
Black people back then had to deal with racist shit like black face and stuff. Because if you spoke up, you'd get beat up by a bunch of white trash men.
Basically, be glad that society isn't the same 70 years ago....Well in America adleast...
