>>1002311972000sfag here, not really. Remember CN showed reruns of classic shows into the early 2010s, the nostalgic television for early-mid Gen Z is still stuff like Bravo, Powerpuff all the way into post-CN Real stuff like Flapjack, Chowder, Adventure Time, etc. And I know for a fact that Gumball is pretty well regarded as well.
But for what it’s worth a lot of entertainment doesn’t come from cartoons anymore. Kids have Youtube celebrities, which are basically just the TV late night comedian personality model ported over to the internet, with a focus on vlogs, makeup, and gaming. Throw on the increased availability of “adult” content a la live action primetime tv and Netflix original content, plus actual video games, plus social media, plus the preexisting film monoliths like Disney-Pixar and Marvel and really there’s little need for an animation market dedicated to kids anymore. Rather than using this opportunity to expand their content however CN then doubles down on their efforts and spams TTG to sap every last dime from their shrinking viewerbase.
What really has me worried for the younger kids is all that fucked up computer generated sweatshop flash animation on Youtube meant to steal clicks and keep little babies pacified for hours while showing images of Elsa getting dismembered. Or the obviously scammy mobile games meant to steal money or install ransomware that kids will eat up because they’re fucking morons. It feels like kids are being raised by predatory marketing tactics and that scares the shit out of me.
But then again I grew up on Disney sequels so what does that say about me?
