i'm just surprised it took this long. When Rebels was first announced I figured it would air for one season in preparation for the Sequel trilogy hype, and then once Force Awakens hits the cinema they'd start a series about the sequel trilogy world.

If it's like Rebels they'll completely make the First Order look like a non-threat. As in they'll never truly be a threat nor will they have any significant victories over the heroes to raise the stakes or make it seem plausible that they're a threat....Kinda like what Rebels did with the Empire. Then again, TLJ did that just fine so there's no where else to go but up, cause it's not like it can get any lower.

But all the spinoffs were supposed to stay focused on the original trilogy and the sequel series was just supposed to be modern-age reboots of the same original trilogy, all to keep beating that drum of "hey everyone, we own Star Wars! Yes, THAT Star Wars! Isn't Star Wars great?" And now they're playing at letting their new material stand on its own?

The original post-OT is fucking fascinating. Galaxy up for grabs, Jedi are out, nobody hunting force users any more. It's incredible how they can turn that into something boring, really.

Disney can't really seem to get Star Wars right despite putting out thousands of new Star Wars stories every year. Besides a few of the comics, nothing new has come close to what the old EU managed to bring to the table.

This isn't "post-OT" though, it's "immediately before TFA". It's about Poe and BB-8 and the Resistance. There's absolutely nowhere to go from a universe-building perspective there since it's just a more boring reskin of the Rebels vs. Empire era.

Say what you will about the actual films, but the whole sequel trilogy universe is a just a story-telling dead end.

The sequel trilogy lore is so devoid of anything unique or interesting that you would have to actively work against the movies to tell an even somewhat compelling story. There's no new armies, no new force users, NOTHING.

You can't pretend that everything it the EU was gold, but everything in the new canon seems to have a very lukewarm reception and I haven't heard of anything that I HAVE to read or of any work that's definitive to the new universe. I'll take interest when they finally produce something approaching the quality of the Thrawn Trilogy.
