He had the balls to fight the Mouse even though they actively tried to start shit. His movies used socially minded motifs but never got preachy and made the entertainment come first. It just felt genuine.

he gets credit from artsy types for fritz the cat because its a symbol of the counterculture of the time, and nerds give him credit for the LotR stuff because for a long time, it was literally the only cinematic experience for those books.

but yeah, most of his movies are borderline unwatchable garbage. wizards especially is terrible given the recognition it gets.

Say what you will about his movies, but Bakshi had the raw will, vision, and understanding for his medium that he created successes out of nothing. The guy is literally a self made man, and a dude that took what life dealt him and threw it back tenfold. He created a stamp on animation with his unique animation style.

If you watch Duckman nowadays, you'll see how topical most of its humour is, even in today's times. Its got some of the smartest writing in animated comedy, along the same lines as 90s Simpsons and the first season of The Critic.
