Justice League on the other hand was insufferable to watch. The film made the CGI and writing in the previous movies look good. The only good thing was how they handled Superman, literally the one good thing that Whedon did.

I liked it, I didn't love it. I thought the villain was extremely generic, though if I can say one good thing about him he did seem menacing, unlike say Ultron, I thought the ending felt like a cop out and could have at least been built up or had more of an explanation, it did seem almost comically random and quick.

Other than that, I liked how the characters interacted and played off one another, and the only one I thought looked bad was Flash

I mean, what did you espect? they change things by mid-production because internet was bitching (I know that because I was busy talking shit about Snyder) and gave this whole mess to Wheadon. Cyborg was so OP. It reminds me of Motoko from Ghost in the Shell. It's exactly how I'd imagine technology could be abused as a superpower. Sadly this reduced some of Batman's importance in traditional stories. Batman is the one who gathers intel and hacks and what not. Cyborg can do it all now. It's good in another way, too much Batman in other stories.

Steppenwolf is a generic villain. But he is the Raditz of this universe. Though weak in hindsight, he is a wakeup call to all the heroes. All while introducing us to the Darkseid world. Something bigger is on the way. Speaking of, this is all because Batman's prediction. I thought it was enlightening to see Batman explain to WW, why Superman is so valuable to Justice League and the entire DC franchise. "Superman was a beacon to the world."

I don't care if it's comic accurate or not, but having the whole team pale in comparison to Superman was kind of weak. They set up this whole team just to wake Supes up, so he can save the day.

Also, Stephen Wolf was a big grey generic dickhead. Such a lame villian for Justice League. Legion of doom would've been a better way to showcase the heros' abilities against other villians.

the scene with clark meeting bruce as wonder woman walks through the background through the frame and is followed by lex approaching the two is better framed and choreographed than nearly any other single scene in a comic book movie.

I didn't hate it and I don't think it was as terrible as everyone said; at least, it didn't have the major problems that BvS had and none of the tonal and other significant issues of MoS, which was nonetheless more entertaining that it's follow-up until the last quarter of the movie where it's just relentless video game destruction porn.

I agree the biggest problem was the need to set up the new guys and also the villain. They should have just gone with a less complicated thing like a global tsunami or similar environmental risk to a large part of the planet.

The film isn't completely without merit. But to people like me those little things don't make up for the big issues.

Lex has no real tangible or understandible motive for his hatred for Supes. He's erratic and short sighted; creating Doomsday, but having no plan for doomsday.

Superman still barely shows any emotion. I have trouble naming any real charecter traits he possesses besides being mopey. They show a montage of him hovering above people and saving them, and he has the same depressed look on his face. Beacon of hope, how?

The greatest blow was how the movie was sold as a battle of ideologies between Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent. The conversation between them never went anywhere, there were forced to fight by a cringey Jesse isenberg.

they have no choice but to continue. Disney Marvel is dicking everyone in the ass. The superhero bubble hasn't quite popped yet either. They've invested so much into the DCEU already. If anything they can cut some costs when they get rid of Affleck and Snyder. And we'll end up with a better story.

saw it a few days ago with my girlfriend. as a fan of the DCEU (especially MoS), I have to say that it was basically Avengers 1. I liked it but it was nowhere near emotional and dramatic as MoS, BvS or even SS or WW. yes, I am one of those fags who are of the opinion that the movie would have been better if Snyder had completed it but I also think that it wouldn't have made remotely as much money as it did if that had been the case

It's better than Avengers 1 but the CGI ruined a lot of the scenes in the last third and Avengers 1 was pretty bad itself. JL definitely has rewatch value but I wish things would have been handled differently, especially by WB's shitty suits and executives

Hmmm I wonder how much of the movie was Snyder's? He's definitely the MASTER for the CG stuff. To me it was passable. The Flash parts were pretty good, however nothing inventive the way Fox handled Quicksilver.

It's really not. Avengers might be cheesy and a bit paint-by-numbers, but it nailed the team up aspect far far better than JL did. And I don't mean "muh MCU method solo films" team buildup, because I don't buy the fact that team ups need solo films first. But putting the Avengers together actually felt natural compared to the way Bruce pieced together the JL. The pacing of putting the team together was especially much better.

Avengers set the new standard for how team up films can work, and it hasn't been matched since. Which is surprising, considering Fox pulled it off with X-Men almost 20 years ago.

I feel that this applies to both JL and Avengers though. JL feels a lot more generic than any of the other DCEU movies. I honestly liked the characters and the team. the JL members had more team building than Avengers if you ask me. the Avengers just sort of instantly like each other after fighting one another while JL are doing shit together (Barry and Victor digging up Superman's grave) or Aquaman fighting with the team because he feels a call for duty

Avengers did set a new standard but a shitty one. I still prefer to rewatch X-Men movies while I can't stand any of the Avengers movies (Civil War was alright though)

What movie did you watch? The first act dragged on.

Batman was introduced in a long (albeit cool) scene. Aquaman had at least two introductions. Flash got an introduction plus the scene with dad in prison. Cyborg got a way too long introduction. Justice League tried to give everyone their own arc, which is admirable, but it resulted in basically no one having a complete story.

Neither hero is smart enough to pause to consider how mindlessly belligerent they are behaving. Promo clips for future movies are shown. Batman does his best to exceed his body count from past movies, a beast made from 1990's CGI shows up and Superman kills that villain too.

Superman was intended to come back all Pet-Semetary, because apparently audiences would be able to tell the difference. This is mercifully cancelled by WB, and the film is butchered into a maudlin apology for Superman being a creepy autist for 2 movies. The last shreds of Batman's dignity and integrity as a character falls away. Useless idiots and Wonder Woman are gathered to stop the villain-no wait, to resurrect Superman in the hopes Lois can convince him to give a single fuck again.
A villain made of early 2000's CGI unleashes CGI errwhere, Batman tries to kill himself in a bid to escape the franchise, Superman shows up and bullies the villain while the Donner Superman score plays in a last feeble attempt to sell the hero.

I feel like he gets shit on way too much if you actually take an objective look at every single one of his scenes. I literally detest some of his movies, especially Sucker Punch, but he puts effort into his cape movies. if it wasn't for the fanboys who aren't even proper fanboys (people flat out ignore that his version of Superman resembles Peace on Earth's version) and normies who ignore that the DCEU isn't for the most part a generic fuckfest like most of the MCU, Snyder and WB wouldn't even have the problems it's having. MoS is a good movie but ultimately, plebs and marketing destroyed its possibility of success. Not quite sure on Aquaman and WW was flat out boring as fuck. Superman was just good old supes so at least 50% of the characters had complete stories if you don't take Supes into account. Wish they had kept more of the Cyborg scenes though so they could flesh him and his emoness out more because I really liked that approach

Man of Steel had a great opening weekend.
What subverted it's success was giving audiences something almost completely off-tone from the great trailers full of sweeping sentimentality and nostalgia for Superman.
This is why it cratered in the following weekends, because the initial crowds did not care for it and word-of-mouth is a thing.

It was wonderfully marketed, in fact that's the most competent aspect of the entire effort. If by "plebs" you mean "the families that make this sort of big budget movie a success", then yes, they did not care for it. Imageboard autists have nothing to do with it one way or the other.

Tony Stark had known him for a while by this point. Captain America met him and they seemed to get along, he made Cap's uniform. Cap would avenge a serviceman who died in the line of duty in any case. Thor's whole thing is protecting mortals, in this case from his own family's crime. Nothing forced about it at all.

Aquaman can stop a tsunami while flash rescues people, Superman punches the villain, Cyborg can reconfigure his tsunami machine, Batman can run coordination, and WW can deal with the mooks. Jonathan NEVER said he shouldn't have saved the kids. he just says "I don't know" when clark asks him whether he should have let the kids die. he's at a loss for words because he wants clark to be safe from other people but can't deny Clark's intrinsic need to save people. The bus scene was integral to Clark's motivation to save people but you totally missed out on that. You seem like the kind of person who needs everything spelled out for them. What if Riddler game set a trap that would implant a self-destruct/corruption virus in Cyborg. In many DCAU stories, Joker and Lex Luthor easily managed to acquire doomsday devices kryptonite/etc. Batman also has Bruce Wayne's clout. Justice League might not be able to peacefully solve a problem. But Bruce could with his influence.

He'll always have his place.

DC gets an enormous amount of love on /co/. Most people's top 10 comic stories would include a lot of DC works. In the genre of superhero animation their past work is unmatchable. Their television stuff is no worse than anyone's basic cable efforts.

I agree that DC gets love but mostly when it comes to comics. when it comes to the movies, I have noticed that usually, people who read comics (both Marvel and DC) have quite a bit of respect for the DCEU even though they don't always flat out like it. these people are also very well able to argue the pros and cons of both the MCU and DCEU so it's fun to engage into discussions with people like that. just visit a shelf thread and notice how much love those guys have for the genre (both comics and movies). I honestly don't know what the shitposters here like because to me, it seems as if they only like to bitch and moan

I really wanted to like it, but i felt it was more poorly directed/edited in every way shape and form. It felt "less cinematic" in a sense and it's very hard to pinpoint the exact reason why. ALso Batman felt significantly less lethal as well as creepy than his prior appearance. Also the reshot scenes displayed just how depressed Affleck was considering he had the alcohol bloat and pouring sweat. The fact that Joss Whedon didn't get any directing credit during the opening is fucking disgraceful.

I was rather talking about the maturity of Superman. he wasn't a newbie at saving people so he took the entire job more seriously. what I'm trying to say is that the character doesn't always need to be the boyscout version but it sure does help to make him more sympathetic as was the case in JL. yeah, it did feel less cinematic for some reason. there are a couple of scenes that looked like they had been wider shots but ended up being close ups (most noticeably Mera's shot of her swimming toward Steppenwolf). apparently, there was a desperate need for less epic but more joke scenes which is why a lot of stuff was changed, interrupting the flow of the action scenes

There was alot of wasted potential and Ezra millers flash actually makes me angry not counting his reaction face when supes was looking at him while he was running around him.

I'm not actually talking about me, OR you. We're posting on a 4chan comics and cartoons board. We're guaranteed sales in the minds of the filmmakers. Their target is the normies that people here so readily screech about and accuse of being braindead. And we do know that word of mouth among that vast majority of people hurts the DCEU's sales given their second week drop offs.
Moreover, I don't think the problem was Superman killing Zod at all. The action isn't the issue, the framing and tone of it are. Those are what contextualize the action. They matter.

This is where Marvel figured things out the right way. Even though Whedon was kind of the "lead" guy, the story was never run by one main person. They had multiple voices and weren't married to one person, so they didn't mind changing things up if something didn't work.

Thor movie just did okay? Get a new director. Second Thor movie was boring? Get another new director and change things up completely. GotG was a smash hit? Give that man a trilogy and let him run with it.

Whereas at DC it was - Man of Steel did just okay? Give him another chance. BvS tanked? Give him another chance. And I'm pretty sure they would've given Snyder another one if he hadn't left due to his daughter's suicide. But even with Snyder gone, they've still got Goyer around to fuck shit up.

This was Batman and Superman. Plus Wonder Woman who had a movie last year that was acclaimed and out-sold the teamup film.

EVERY ONE of the main 'tentpoles' that were supposed to be sure-fire successes has underperformed. Bad decisions were made, either by Snyder or Goyer. And in interviews Snyder talks about how much he was involved in the scripting process with Goyer.

You could have turned in something shockingly mediocre and it would have done better than this. The movies Snyder directed and produced were actively ALIENATING to audiences.

There's no reason not to think this either. Superman's punches can actually be objectively measured in terms of energy content based on their collateral effects. MoS was a solid film. The only hangups are pretty minor except for Zod. Pa Kent wasn't portayed in the meant he was meant to be but his actions and words were understandable. Clark does seem genuinely happy to help people despite the depression memes. Him killing Zod was the major flaw and that was Snyder's autism fully fleshing out and even that didn't completely ruin it. BvS was schlock and it had a number of flaws but I overall enjoyed it mostly because I loved Afflecks Batman when when he wasn't written OOC, and I'll always adore Cavills Supes. The JL movie was a rushed dumpster fire with decent moments. I was genuinely excited for Ezras Flash and was straight up disappointed. Cyborg was good but his CGI was shit. Aquaman was dope but I was hoping for more dialogue from him. Affleck was once again perfect when not written to be OOC. I like Gal as Wondy but JL was not a good example of that role. Once again I adored Cavill, and was sad they pushed him into the final act like hacks. They should have fired Snyder after BvS and given JL some breathing room from it's predecessors before attempting the flagship title. They should have done a Batman solo, and the Return of Superman/MoS2 before JL, and absolutely should have done Flash first. Cyborg and Arthur are fine to introduce first in JL and explore more later.

They just need to go balls to the walls and make Crisis movie or some shit. Fans, both casual and hardcore alike eat Multiverse shit UP for breakfast lunch and dinner.

I've loved almost every iteration of super man there is for different reasons, and yes, I thought MoS was solid. It wasn't the exact Clark I grew up with but it was one I enjoyed watching. And while there was destruction, you can't blame that all on Superman or expect him to stop every but of destruction before it happens on his first Battle with someone on his level. It ADVERTISED that Superman, but then pulled a bait-and-switch and substituted Snyder's terrible vision. Snyder knows less about Superman than either of us, and that's after directing him in movies.

Superman does not naturally turn off audiences. He's had wildly popular comics, radio, television and movie incarnations. At his height he was vastly more popular than Batman has ever been.

It took Snyder to turn people off of him. That he succeeded in dragging Batman down with him is simply stunning. Batman was a billion dollar franchise when Snyder started misusing him.

There's at least 3 pasted-together versions of this film, the theatrical one was patched together Whedon-style by Richard Lester. Some versions don't even address what happens to Luthor after the final take down of the Kryptonians. None of the versions are Donner's full vision.

I suppose you can interpret that as meaning that Donner Clark and Lois merrily murdered a few bad guys, but the fact that Donner filmed a scene showing they didn't rather disabuses intelligent people of that idea.

See, I actually mostly liked TLJ, but I think it leaves the third film in a total bind vis-a-vis what to do. If Luke had faded into the Living Force at the beginning of the 3rd film I would have had no problems.
That said, I also feel TLJ had some deep, deep structural problems that were completely capable of being addressed in the scripting stage and do some serious harm to the movie.

So I liked it, but I'm not wild about it.
