It had already reinvented itself twice before 2012 when this generation of writers came on and tried something different, and had been pretty much completely panned until then.
Decent writing even for simple premises is extremely difficult to find, and really I don't think many are all that interested in another entry in 30+ years of Autobots vs Decepticons without a good hook or some interesting twist.
Past threads there have been better posts that 2012 IDW made some great promises of showing the Transformers making progress building a new world, inventing a new mythology, having cool new ideas. I still think season one of MTMTE and RID are some of the greatest Transformers runs. People at that time were noticing that Transformers comics had gotten interesting, too. If it had better editing and someone to say no to some bad ideas, it could have worked.
Hasbro's ideas are mostly very boring, and come down to selling things to people who worship the 1984 cartoon and are maybe familiar with Furman's comics mythology. I'm pretty much imagining the next run of comics as just sort of being 1984 cartoon but with some other things that have been popular and some swearing.
