The UAF era was essentially marked by a lot of neat ideas that were implemented very poorly.
Making Gwen’s powers genetic? Ok, cool. That explains why 10 year old her was able to use Hex’s “master magician” staff. Turning the spells into bland constructs? Not so much.
Making Kevin a good guy? It could have been cool, having him own up to the fact that young him was a sociopath, and teen him was a conman who gave no shits about anybody other than himself. He could have eventually come to appreciate having real friends who have his back, and they could have developed his relationship with Gwen over the course of the first season. But nope. Instead we got “I’d follow you anywhere” after like 15 mins of getting reacquainted with Ben and Gwen.
The art style felt like a natural progression from the OS, but was so sloppily done that their idea of a crowd scene on petropia was to have diamondhead copy-pasted about fifty times. Literally copy pasted! They didn’t even bother to change colors or sizes or anything. Every body was exactly the same as the next.
