The meme of nothing good being on TV has existed since TV was in color for the first time. You could just treat it as haha funny joke, but such a commonly reoccurring mention even in television's own shows doesn't just happen. Similarly, ask anyone who has experienced TV as their only form of mass entertainment. As in anyone who reached their teens before the internet took hold. Television was always 90% disposable entertainment no one remembers when the TV has been off more than a few seconds. This is also why truly good shows were major talking points when they used to happen. A genuinely good product coming out of the swamp that was TV was legitimately rare.
They have only themselves to blame. Internet came along and merely proved if your product is the same quality of what is being handed out FOR FREE elsewhere, no one is going to pay for yours.
