Star didn't intend that statement to be "friendzoning" him. She wanted to set him straight because he was starting to treat her like she couldn't handle herself (both in this episode and the one before it, Sleep Spells).>>94208112
I don't want TomStar to be a thing again because it would torpedo both Tom's character development which has been excellent so far and Star's romantic characterization which has had her helplessly in love with Marco, despite trying for months to make her feelings go away or pin them on someone else.
Tom would gain a lot more by trying to be a good friend to both of them and overcoming the temptation to take advantage of their conflict, and is certainly too proud to let Star just use him as a rebound guy or even to try making Marco jealous.
Star would just come off as a floozy. Either she's using Tom to get at/over Marco, which would be really shitty of her, or she's just suddenly gotten over Marco at the most dramatically convenient moment, which would be really awful forced drama.
They can do a lot better that, and I have confidence that they will because this show's character writing has been outstanding.
