Unfortunately, Mr. Venditti’s Idea of Jesse Owens is an Entirely Fictitious Account, War Propaganda:>In the immediate aftermath of the Berlin Games, a myth arose that Hitler, enraged at the triumph of an African American, refused to congratulate Owens on his victories because he failed to shake his hand. However, the press reported that the German leader gave the American sprinter a “friendly little Nazi salute,” and Owens said that the two exchanged congratulatory waves… “Hitler didn’t snub me—it was our president who snubbed me,” he (Owens) said months after the Games. “The president didn’t even send me a telegram.”
In fact, it’s like Mr. Venditti doesn’t know anything about anything. Venditti really scrapes in the comic looking for something, some Americanism to promote over what is his incredible take on Nazism. The best Venditti came up with is apple pie, baseball and the heroes of his flimsy and fictitious reality in Freedom Fighters #1.
Verdict: The only reason I would read more of the current Freedom Fighters series from Misters Venditti and Barrows would be to gawk at them.
I feel like no one has learned anything about the Holocaust either…
