I like that the new season seems like it'll focus more on Mewni and less on Marco's neighborhood (aka SvtFoe's equivalent of SU "townie" episodes.)
Season 2 was already kind of like that with the show giving pointless characters like Alphonso and Ferguson less screen time while giving it to characters people actually liked like Janna. I wish SU could do that with the townies.
