Not knowing something about yourself is not the same as telling a lie about it. Some things are just really difficult to figure out and are complex in nature. Certain things can hide other issues or get causes confused. Thinking people just decide to lie to themselves is incredibly uncharitable, and it won't help you figure out a lot of what is potentially wrong with a given person. The human mind is actually a confluence of several independent parts capable of thinking and acting on their own. The goal is to keep them pointed in the same direction and generally try not to ignore them when they 'speak'.
Look up Carl Yung sometimes. Or just Jordan Peterson, who does a good job of translating Jung's work in to a more practical and understandable form.
