I say that the shows writers wanted to stretch the "no answers" part of the show regardless how insane and unnatural it gets.

Basically after they are ready, Pearl is about to teach Steven and Steven is super interested to learn about gems and then something happens and LITERALLY NO ONE EVER WANTS TO EDUCATE STEVEN. Not Steven and not Pearl. That this ever happened is ignored forever in the show.
This is the unatural level of writing these characters have.

Bizarre behavior that makes zero sense.
Good writers will tell you that after a while their characters start to have a life of their own. And start to have reasoning of their own. This apparently never happened in SU.
