>>107524533 12 years old. Around the time girls are in the middle of or finishing their puberty. Sexual awakenings. First REAL experience with it is a lifeguard she trusted and treated like an adult mentor took her to dark woods to rape her, also preventing her from achieving a goal she spent all summer working on (swimming to the island). Leaves a mark about 'trust', 'sex', and 'ability' on her. So she has trust issues, sexual discrepancies, and lacks the ability to commit to anything largely out of anxiety of failure or not being good enough, or BAD THINGS happening like rape or snakes in mouth.
Looking back her character makes a lot of sense. It was a one time thing that happened EARLY on so it left a big impact on her foundation as a person. Sure, she grew more normal after the next decade and a half. Just because she got fucked at 12 literally and figuratively
doesn't mean she didn't have 15 years of a normal life. She'd get used to sex and parties and people and responsibility, but the cracks from her experiences are still there and rear their ugly heads.
Examples. She is sexually frustrated and this clearly attractive guy makes her moist. But the way he does things to her makes her remember the bad things, but at the same time her body got moist still so out of a confused state she ran to the bathroom to jill off
I honestly like how this show was a lot more gray. That one episode where she was starting to be sure she couldn't get a promotion because of sexism, and then she was wrong and her literal line was "It's not because of sexism! It's because I SUCK"
I was hoping with Penguin Pete he'd be just an asshole all around, but then he did turn sexist at the end so, meh. Cop out.
