I'm OP. My first few posts were whilst I was still up to around ep 4 at most and was throwing my opinion out for what I had seen so far. Some changes I was okay with, some I wasn't.
I've only just now finished season 1 and it's quite clear by this point that the adaptation is going to diverge a LOT from the source book.
So there's two schools of thought, I guess.>It's too different from the source and will be shit.>It's going to be its own thing. Which will disappoint people who really wanted a true adaptation. But it might become something interesting in its own right.
I've got some further comments to make, I guess.
MM is just a dude. I don't even know WHAT his motivation is. He didn't have a family history of getting fucked by Vought and Compound V. His wife is a bitch and he's got a daughter, but there's no drug/porn ring they're involved in at all. MM is also a whipped bitch to his wife.
Frenchie is actually pretty good. He has a great likeness to the comic character. He's a little less eccentric.
I still think the guy playing Homelander is great in his role. I'm just not so sure about the writing from this point on especially. He's much more proactive than the comic version was at this stage.
Stillwell is a little disappointing. S/he isn't even CLOSE to the original. She sucks at threatening and manipulating and it's clear that she's just barely hanging on. She's also dead now
. Maybe they'll replace her with something closer to the original but I doubt it now with how Homelander is established by the end of S1.
