I've thought about this for a while. And I think I reached a conclusion.
'Magic' was a stand in for the old ways. The old fashioned Disney cartoons where the princess is always prim and proper, always has their shit together and they are morally good, no matter what. And with the same effect it's also embracing and promoting (unsurprisingly) the liberal mindset.
It's basically saying: 'we don't know what the future holds, we don't know what the FUCK we are doing; but nonetheless we move forward and pave our own path. Whatever that may be.'
No queen before Star had ever done what she had done. Were Star's choices 'good' choices? Up for debate, but all queens of Mewni have supported her decision. Star's future is uncertain (well other than being with Marco) and so is ours (mostly talking about millenials), but it is in our hands to forge our paths.
