Just watched this like a couple hours ago. Thought it was pretty neat. Nothing special or too original, but it was pretty heartwarming, managed to tug my heartstrings here and there, and the movie is still lingering on my mind. Also some pretty catchy songs selected on the OST Il gatto e la volpe is a banger, plus was pleasantly surprised to see the original soundtrack was made by Dan Romer, I really liked the Maniac OST he did.

Maybe it was just an extended version of this scene? It probably got cut because of the reasons you highlighted. Alberto sees Luca as more of a follower than a peer for most of the movie.

I love Luca but how do we know its done better than those movies?Luca may have gotten more opening views than Soul, but Soul actually won an Oscar. And I don't see how we can compare Luca and Raya since Luca didn't even get a chance to go into theaters. The only thing Luca is probably winning on is merch sales.

To me one big part was the timing. A movie that emphasized "the best summer ever" and adventure releasing the summer after a pandemic? A recipe for success imo. And like others have mentioned it was nothing revolutionary; just a nice story with a nice message set in a nice location filled with nature.
