This show, on top of being the only "good" thing to come out of star trek in a hot fucking minute, is also perfect for illuminating the bullshit of whiny trek gatekeepers. No wonder there hasn't been a "real" star trek in years, you crybabies can't even be confused as a marketable demographic, you're just a bunch of babies on the internet crying over whatever detail validates your worthless opinion. Trying to make a show you would actually enjoy is completely fucking futile, because you don't enjoy anything.

I dislike how they made a black female character that bubbly, annoying, uber-genki and quirky, low-key hyper-competent while everybody's screaming "wtf are you doing?!" white girl stereotype. Black people just don't act like that. That should have been Tendi, while Mariner was moody, doing shit her own way, harsh, standoffish and abrasive, until you get to know her. No writers can do a realistic black girl, due to not BEING a black girl, I guess.

Battlestars main role was as long term mobile battlestations and deployment of armed forces, not only space fighters. They also served in huge scale rescue operations. Late First Cylon ships had to go the analog route to avoid Cylon hacking, so a good chunk of it's inner space had to allocate analog machinery to replace automated systems. Okay so kill one of the LD crew then, otherwise your point is invalid. I'm not gatekeeping shit, I dont care who likes the show. I'm saying it doesn't follow it's own premise. If you just wanted a parody then make one, but dont set the crew up as scrappy underdogs and then send them on constant missions as if they were a proper away team. You can't have your cake and eat it. They can't be rebels too cool for starfleet and also the captains pets at the same time oh wait that's exactly what they're trying to do with mariner and it's why she's obnoxious.

Can't wait to see how she has to turn down a promotion for being too rad this week, for the fourth time in what, 6 episodes?

Yes, it was explicitly designed to look cool, not be functional. However, it's also been pointed out that given just how hard it would be to kill someone with a bat'leth and how Klingon culture works, the most likely origin for bat'leths are as dueling weapons meant to minimize fatalities.

Bat'leths are copied from Kzinti weapons, and mixed in with obscure chinese sword designs.
In the novels bat'leths are meant to be anti-sword weapons, to catch and twist swords out of soldiers hands. After that it became the traditional weapon that was illogically forced on everyone. So yeah, it works, but not against starfleet phasers.
The biggest crime in ST is that we never get to see a Sulu vs version-2 klingon swordfight happen.
