What's your opinion on Chile's "Nahuel y el libro mágico" (Nahuel and the Magic Book), /co/?
Will it be great? Will it suck? Will it suffer from the same problems all Chilean Animation Project suffer?

I think Chileans can be proud of this film. As I said before, it's not perfect, mostly in the story telling. Feels like some young writer who had read similar stories and wanted to make their own, not adjusting plot points and characters to fit the story on hand. But I feel everything else elevates it.

Oh, didn't see this message before I sent the last one. I'll spoiler for those who care:

She's pretty cool animation wise. The evil witches have this crow/raven motif that's really nice and she can morph into a flock of crows as a means of movement which is very satisfying to watch.

Huh, well I'm aware of the Pinochet regime but I think this movie is taking place in the more or less modern day. Can't even remember them using phones or other modern devices in the film.

When I was a kid living in Chile I had to sneak watch it since my mom forbade anime. She thought it was too sexual and violent.

She wasn't wrong. Though still got me some Ranma 1/2 tiddies a few times.

While it is true that in Chile you immediately win points if you touch the subject (provided you are not defending the Military Government, of course), creators in Chile have a serious issue about not referencing it in their work. This is mostly due to the lack of finance this type of works get in Chile, you have to apply for government funds and either propose a work about indigenous folklore (or mapuche, because in their heads Chile doesn't have other indigenous tribes) or about the Military Government.

My dad didn't want me to watch Ranma 1/2 because Ranma transformed into a girl... no matter how much I explained to him that Ranma hated it and that it was a problem for him, he wouldn't understand. (I still watched it, of course)

To be fair, I think that decision has more to do with saving on budget and time, than a real artistic choice... the style is simple enough to be done fast, and good enough to not look bad.

Yeah. Her and her dog boyfriend fight in the clilmax, and after the main bad guy is defeated all his curses are lifted so she becomes normal and her boyfriend is a human again. It's just the last few minutes though so I don't remember how different she looks. I think she just looses her feather look.

Dude, there are talent here in Chile. Yet i know where is this feeling coming from. As good animators exist here, most their work is just indie stuff. You rarely see a big animation work that looks this good, and the government won't spend money helping in something artsy. Just look all Chilean animation projects with government budget, these are shit.
Bear Story has almost no help from the government, did great, and the government just took as much credit as they could and inmediately forgot about it.
All good talent in Chile is kept in the indie scene as going big is going cheap here.

You mean the only chilean animation with the balls to recognize Chile has no real culture and should just try to focus on narrating a story instead of showcasing the superficial knowledge we have about our indigenous tribes or the resentment we have towards a government from 30 years ago?
