I'd probably wouldn't really watch it given that this still plays it safe, rather than just being risky. Even if it has good animation.
This film pretty much has the hallmarks of safe family friendly film that's been plaguing the entire industry due to americanized influence that they have on the entire world aside from Japan for decades.
>teenager protag>generic love interest>cute lovable funny alien sidekick that's clearly made for merch money>wacky roadtrip movie>set in fucking USA out of all places, doesn't seem to show any evidence if they were going to explore planets and spaceI'd honestly really wish that more studios would just stop following american trends that are the main reason why western animation in general is on a decline. I honestly really wish that more studios would just stop being pussies and be actively encouraged to explore board themes and tackle on different audiences that aren't just families. I just want to see more films are that more or less similar to most Japanese films in terms of their bravery in exploring different themes and tones, exactly like it was done in live action films. Animation shouldn't be considered as a genre, but as a medium that people should think of as like live action, exactly what the Japanese films have been doing for decades.
