The long-and-short of my rant was that the increasing cultural and economic divide in America has left many people feeling bitter and left-behind, which makes them sympathetic to failed ideologies.
They see these ideologies as being hurt by the same laissez faire system that hurt them, whether they be progressive or conservative. I should now; I've had sympathy for both ideologies in the past. Of course, I'm Hispanic, so I'm not if I am white enough to qualify for your description.
