Just like how in the old days everyone was a rabid atheist to strike back at the Christian "establishment". Over time being nonreligious became the norm so now all the hipsters are pretending to be religious so they can prove how truly individual and nonconformist they are.
It's also a sociopolitical thing. They've assigned atheism with a specific political demographic they dislike and so they turn to LARPing as Christians because politics is literally their entire life and personality. Not to mention the view of christianity as the antithesis to islam.
