Of all of the artist themed collections, the Breyfogle one is the only one that is remotely coherent.

The only issue is that some issues don't have covers reprinted and Mud Pack's prologue from Secret Origins is MIA. At the time, DC basically let editors run filler stories when Breyfogle was unable to do an issue. So it's pretty coherent in that regard and the only major missing issues are the Blind Justice trilogy which was done by a completely different creative team and has it's own TPB.

1. The title is a huge misleader: all the stories in the volume are from Detective Comics circa 1987-1989. DC just recycled the Legends of the Dark Knight name for their artist select Batman hardback line of collections.

2. Legends of the Dark Knight the comic wasn't in continuity for the first 5 years of it's existence and even then, it's continuity was nebulous once they converted it to just another Bat-book.

3. Legends of the Dark Knight had a good amount of crap; basically for every good story, there was about two really shitty ones

4. Legends was one of the first "write for the trades" comics, where every story was dragged out 3-4 issues longer than it had any right to be. Which hurts it's legacy.
