>>3639684I’m going to give you a personal perspective, so take this with a grain of salt.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GundamThis will give you a list of all the series.
Now, of that list Yoshiuki Tomino, the series creator, directed these 8:
-Mobile Suit Gundam*
-Zeta Gundam*
-ZZ Gundam*
-Char’s Counterattack*
-F91
-Victory Gundam
-Turn A Gundam
-G no Reconguista
I think Tomino’s got a very wonderfully bisexual eye for aesthetics, and his shows are most worth paying attention to for good stories and cute boys.
A little secret is that for F91 onwards, all you really need to have seen of Gundam is the first one, Mobile Suit Gundam, to be able to understand each one. You could watch MSG and then go straight to F91, Victory, Turn A, or G Reco. They are basically stand alone stories, even though they do technically fall on a timeline.
Now, I put stars next to the first four. There’s a lot of non-Tomino Gundam that requires that you’ve watched those four. Those are:
-0080: War in the Pocket
-0083: Stardust Memory
-08th Mobile Suit Team
-Igloo
-Unicorn
-Origins
-Thundebolt
-Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway
I’d personally recommend Hathaway highly, it’s a new movie, but a direct sequel to Char’s Counterattack.
Now, there are a bunch of other shows that are “Alternate Universes”. These are technically not tied to any other Gundam, but I recommend people to watch Mobile Suit Gundam before watching AU’s because they play off of your knowledge of Gundam’s tropes. The AU’s are:
-Mobile Fighter G
-Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
-After War Gundam X
-Gundam Seed
-Gundam 00
-Gundam Age
-Gundam Build Fighters
-Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans
And that’s pretty much it. I skipped over some items on that list, but what I mentioned are basically the big ones.
