So now that time has passed, what did you think of Sonic Mania /v/? What was the good, what was the bad? What would you like to see in a possible sequel?
For me, the level design was on-point to classic Sonic. It felt better than Generations, and an evolution of Sonic 3K. Nearly every level felt fun to play from start to end, with barely a hiccup in between. I feel like the abundance of old levels hindered the games creativity though, and would love to see a sequel consist entirely of original levels.
Having Sonic, Tails and Knuckles was great too, with Taxmans accurate physics, so they don't really need to improve anything on that front. However, I would like to see more player possibilities in a sequel, like Amy and Metal Sonic, or even the Chaotix (and how they played in the original Chaotix respectively).
Music was amazing as well, though I feel like they should bring in another composer or two for a sequel, to lighten the load off of Tee, and allow some more variety in song styles.
Basically, Sonic Mania did everything Generations did for Classic Sonic, but better, by being a huge nostalgia tripped mixed in with some new fun. However, I'm ready for Classic Sonic to have a 100% brand new adventure. Maybe even give him a new villain besides Eggman just to shake up the formula a bit (like giving the Hard Boiled Heavies a bigger role, or even the Kukkus from Tails Adventure).
