How many Boyz do I need?

I like Evil Sunz but don't want to abuse Tellyport, nor do I want to use Trukks. Am I fucked if I just footslog and run'n'gun?

Is it a cunt move to play an Evil Sunz Brigade, Deffskulls Batallion (For Meks, SAGs and KMBs) and maybe a Freeboota Spearhead?

I have Terminator Marines i've had ever since I got the black reach set ages ago, but now in 8th edition they feel so fucking useless.

Blood Ravens lore is closer to some people more than others, because like me I got into 40k around the end of 3rd edition but Dawn of War REALLY hooked me on 4th edition.

I play smurfs but I actually care about the blood ravens story, I just wish they didnt fuck up dawn of war 3, I feel we'll never get another one now.

I agree, but this has nothing about CP to do as originally claimed.
We need a hero phase, as in AoS, where powerful commanders can attempt to do buffs and auras, but regardless, CP is a great addition to this system. Now its not always the random chaos of a die to decide your army´s fate on the battlefield, you can change that thanks to CP and strats..

I don't like mixing chapters in one army or whatever, but such things being cuntish are decided per player

The only 'dick move' for orkz is accidently raping your casual friends when you roll like 3 6's to hit with rockets/shokkjump which somehow then all hit, or never failing your ultra reliable charges. I don't give a fuck about tournements but orks are way overtuned for casualplay imo with their like 3 or 5 dope passive rules. This actually made me sell the army on as i wasn't having fun. Not abusing teleport/Da Jump bullshit is a good start

Taking Ork named heroes would help too as they aren't amazing but are passable

Between 60-90 boyz. At least one 30 blob of choppa boyz. Since the boyz kit is so versatile, I’m referring to the number of bodies on the board- like lootas, tankbustas and such. If you don’t want trukks, consider a battle wagon or a weirdboy to jump your blobs across the map- maybe 2, so they don’t instantly die to accidental perils.
It’s not in bad taste to have different kultures, just make sure to tell your opponent and make them easy to identify.

Not him, but a "hero phase" (or call it whatever you want) would be useful for collating all the various activatable character buffs that are kinda orphaned now and take place sometime in the movement or shooting phases with little rhyme or reason.

Anyway, one thing that could be really useful would be allowing a "hero phase" or psychic phase to happen before the start of the first turn, by a stratagem if need be (ie, 2CP, cast a psychic power before the start of the first round). As it is, a lot of stuff is dependent on defensive buffs that they may not survive an alpha strike long enough to receive.

I just feel its wrong that commanders and heroes in general have a lot of auto buffs switched on all the time (aura abilities). To ad more depth to the game, a hero phase could solve this problem of the "auto-include characters" that's there only for their aura abilities. Also, why is it automatic in the first place? Why can everyone within 6" of character X re-roll certain stats without so much as a test of leadership? Now that's retarded!

This is distinct from the reason a hero phase is a good idea, although I can't think of a great reason for the psyker and hero phases to be distinct.

Right now, everyone with non-psyker active buffs are all over the map in terms of when they happen (orders, heal/repair, prayers, etc etc). Everything would be a lot saner and cleaner if that was all moved into one phase.

Not sure which anon you are, but:
a) If you want to rename it the hero phase, that's fine.
b) If you want fewer phases, it can be folded into another phase, just like other abilities (e.g. orders are folded into shooting), although this runs counter to the 40k premise of phases, really (shooting and fighting being different phases, instead of just an action phase where you do whichever, is inconsistent with the attitude that these support actions should be inside a phase dedicated to something else). That said, I'm not married to phases.

The Psychic Phase does not need to exist, and moreover should not exist. Psychic powers do not do anything that requires there own phase. Psychic Powers should all be resolved in the relevant phases. Movement powers cast in the movement phase, offensive powers cast in the shooting or fight phase, so on. Same thing for a hypothetical hero phase. There is no flaw in the rules that necessitates a buffing phase. A phase where all your commanders flex and strike heroic poses before the battle continues is also gay as hell. I am against it

Beta Bolter rule still means they can unload 20 shots the turn they drop in, so you can try to combo that with the proper traits/spells (Captain/Lieutenant auras, Veil of Time) and either bait or scare the enemy to do things your way. Low AP enemies ahead? Put your Homer in cover and look at the amount things that just ping off afterwards.

Your logic for picking different phases for different powers doesn't consistently work (a mechanic need not be involved with moving, shooting, charging, fighting, or morale - see e.g. repair), but you could always e.g. put all of them in the Movement phase, since that happens first anyway - and then e.g. a shooting buff could simply expire at the end of the next shooting phase, and so on.

Morale shouldn't be the morale phase, because morale is a useless mechanic, it should.be the genral cleanup phase where morale (if it weren't useless) and repairs or healing are done, and defensove powers are cast before the start of the next turn

Not necessarily. It really depends on the format you want to play. Custodes are also 2-3 models max and suffer the same problem, but the simple answer to that is don’t agree to play control missions unless there is only 1-4 points on the map. It’s still quite fun to watch your 3 guys fight off two to three times their numbers and doing well enough, but you will be incredibly limited in your tactical choice per turn.

That's a Sicaran chassis. I agree, though. That could be a proxy for a Sicaran Punisher, but not a Leman Russ. Any Russ proxy needs to have that forward slant look IMO.

But what really confuses me is people who play 40k in a tournament setting in the first place. It's such a bad game for competative play where you have almost no input in the game itself beyond listbuilding and rolling dice.

They should be around Catachans upper limit (+1 with officer, +2 with High ranked Leader) at max.

>Do not roll morale on units ignored this phase
>Shooters also always roll morale, but do not suffer from lost models.
>Failed morale test has two parts, minor failure and major falure.

Its a fucking warzone, all participants, even Chaos cultists should expect to get shot, first and foremost it should effect their battle efficiency, second should be models running.

Heres the story behind the article:

They're a little bit better than at the start of 8th at least. They always get rapid fire at full range for bolt weapons, so remember to always give yourself all 4 shots.

A team with 40 bolt shots and some decent chop isn't so awful. Just don't try to use them as living walls like you might be tempted to. They are beatsticks that hit your enemy's flank after the main push hits the enemy lines and you see where you need some extra bodies.

Right. Just because they CAN DS in at 9.01" doesn't mean they HAVE to. You can DS in at 24" and get full output from stormbolters. Space Wolves might just be the best at this - even though Raven Guard have the superior chapter tactic - because they can drop the power fist in favor of a storm shield or cheaper melee weapon (like a power axe).

Well, Yvraine came out of nowhere. I understand that she was the Malekith's sister and Everqueen after Aenarion passed in fantasy, but in 40k, she just came out of the blue to become one of the most important characters in the setting. There were plenty of other established and long built up characters they could have used such as Eldrad or Asuryan for her role.

They're also far too nice and hopeful for the setting. 40k is about grim dark; everybody is a bloodthirsty psychopath. There's no good left in the galaxy (if there was ever), and no matter how much the lesser evil struggles, the greater evil will always win in the end.

First, I'm not a fan of advancing the timeline. What they should have done is fill in everything between the Horus Heresy and M41. Everything after M41 would be vague.

If the timeline must be advanced, I'd have Eldrad completely fail. His one chance at saving the Eldar race and destroying Slaanesh annihilated by Death Watch. Furthermore, the incomplete ritual negates all the spirit stones and Dark Eldar rituals. Those souls in the Infinity Circuit go directly to Slaanesh and now there would is no hope for the species. The Eldar are now doomed to be Slaanesh food. There is no grand alliance, as the Eldar decide that if they're to die, they'll have vengeance against the Imperium.

Cadia still falls, and the Imperium is still split in two. Rather than focusing on the Abaddon problem, the Imperium falls to infighting and focuses its efforts against the Eldar and revolting planets. The Imperium liberally uses exterminatus to quell populations.

Further on, the Imperium does win against the Eldar, reducing their numbers to only a few 1000, but severely damaged themselves. The orks unleash the biggest WAAAAGH ever as the nids arrive in force. The Imperium is almost completely destroyed between these two, which allows Abaddon to stroll into Tera and kill the Emperor. Chaos Gods are about to drag everyone into eternal hell, when the necrons finally wake up. Rather than seeing Chaos win, they pull one last piece of supertech out to delete reality (maybe via false vacuum or Sea of Dirac). Spacetime is annihilated and the universe ceases to exist. The end.

From a lore perspective, it won't be very long before there aren't any manlets left. We're *already* at the point where unless a faction is resource starved, every new Scout will be a Primaris (even if Cawl seems to be bogarting the extra large 4+ jammies).

For me its the fanfic tier stuff, where she comesfrom, what her deal is, the whole biel tan getting rekt, all the deux ex machinas etc.. It's like they just wanted to push her to be a main player for the sake of it.

It also made a new faction just to sell 3 models, which is completely bonkers since its just about using the best of 3 worlds.

It's literally just a model refresh like the new CSM releases, and should have been handled as such. Intercessors shouldn't exist, they should just be a refresh of tactical marines. The primaris statline and ppm should have just been amended to the existing units.

You made the fatal error of assuming that a timeline advancing means it has to be advancing towards something, you can just wheel spin for as long as you want in 40k because there is literally no limit to the bullshit you can pull, you made the conscious choice of destroying everything for near as I can see no reason at all.

Get rid of the Eldar helping Guilliman to be restored "crawler could have done that by himself"
Make the indomitus crusade to be happening right now. No more plot devices, make many things happen, this is not a spotlight story.

Cease the, chaos legions strike everywhere and get btfo, remember that they are also trying to survive just like everything else in this galaxy.

Cadia is occupied by Abaddon for over 10 years, in this process the bottle neck effect of the eye of terror is taken away and Magnus leaves the eye of terror to exact his wrath in fenris.

Just when the chaos rift is happening the black templars arrive in full force to cadia with freaking necron allies due to an inquisitor "desperate times and desperate allies" to reclaim cadia or kill abadddon. Abby decides to deny the asset by blowing cadia "it is not fully destroyed but turned into a molten wasteland, a place not worthy fighting for.

40k its a setting for people to do all they want and come up with their stuff, and allow GW to come up with campaigns and possible outcomes for certian events, however the "advancing the story" its pretty silly. Like I said, that would be to force the setting to evolve just because they want to tell something new and force a spotlight.

In short, only noobs and fanboys think 40k is not a setting.

They do. Of course noise marines don't get updated every edition. Tacticals, assault marines, and devestators all have recent updates. The only squad that could be updated is scouts, but people wouldn't count those because of course Primaris use scout companies so its actually a Primaris update.

Again, going a few years without a squad box and thinking you're squatted as a result is a purely marine mindset

Tacticals have been shit since 4th edition so it really isnt hard to be a straight upgrade but even then a tactical squad would cost me fewer points and can carry a lascannon while it sits on a home objective whereas the Intercessors just sit around with their dicks in the hands or if I wanted to use them more aggressively I could give a tactical squad 2/3 plasma guns and stuff them in a razorback and have them zoom the field capping objectives and popping tanks whereas the Intercessors would either have to give up their AP just to fire and move or buy a very expensive transport all to do the same all while having 0 plasma guns

A single Knight + Armigers is completely reasonable at 1.75k/2k. Armigers are about as tough as Onagers but cost 60 more points, Knights are tough, but a single big one at 2k now that their invun is capped at 4 is fine, if your opponent cant deal with that, their list needs work.

Use Siege Breaker Cohort
Take Landraider Excelsior + Rhino Primaris
3 HB + SB Centurions in the Landraider
Phobos Captain as Warlord with Target Priority
Primaris Captain as Field Commander with Indomitable and Eye of Hypnoth

Now I can use Bolter Drills with Seismic Devestation on the Centurions at +2 to hit and shit out 72 shots + a statistical 32 bonus hits.

Out of 104 shots I am likely to hit 86 of them, and of those I am likely to wound on a 6 with 14 of them, Not a horrific vehicle killer now is it?

It's more like they share a lot of similiarities. Both are purple and have similar visual motifs, both have the half masculine/feminine thing going on with their daemons/avatars, and both get more powerful by collecting Eldar souls. It's more likely that Ynnead is an aspect of Slaanesh, to mirror Eldar aspects, than is Slaanesh though.

I don't think Storm Bolter/Storm Shield is a legal DW loadout, and the Storm Bolters cost twice as much, but you get SIA, fearless, and a better chapter tactic. Space Wolves can take their pick of combi-weapons, but Deathwatch has better access to heavy weapons.

DW are probably better, all told.

They cant take shield and bolter, but if you load them in a vet squad vets can take shields for soaking wounds. However you lose SIA + Bolter discipline (one or the other only) which is a bummer. They can all take a meltafist and three can take a cyclone. Its expensive af but its a shit ton of shootingm

To be honest, the Space Wolf player isn't going to reach for the termis ANYWAY until Elite Slot 4 - the first three slots are going to be Wolf Guard, not Wolf Guard Terminators, with jump packs, storm shields, and a weapon. 20 points for M12(Fly)/W1/Sv3+/3++ is better than 25 points for M5/W2/Sv2+/3++, particularly with plasma.

Too bad it's against the DW Termi's religion to grab the *good* guns like the regular vets do - DW Termis with frag cannons would be fucking legit.

Power Fist -> Power Fist + Meltagun (second bullet point)
Power Fist -> TH+SS (third bullet point)

Jain zar was actually a proto wych cult gladiator who ran away from home and stopped asurmen from throwing himself off the top of the temple of asuryan in a fit of suicidal depression after his brother an heroed.

then the wyches come back for her and asurmen strides out of the temple in pyjamas, introduces himself as asurmen the dire avenger (Literally the fucking hand of god), then proceeds to beat the entire wych cult to death with his bare hands while delivering a speech about justice.

Later on asurmen and jain zar travel to meet with a group of eldar living in a webway spar who don't seem to be degenerate slavers like the rest of the webway, jain zar smells a trap and prefabs herself a glaive, then tells asurmen to bring a concealed weapon so they can pretend to be master and bodyguard.

of course the eldar turn out to be slaaneshi cultists so Jain Zar and Asurmen stage a fighting retreat out of the port city and back to the ship where Jain Zar discovers that Asurmens idea of a concealed weapon is to throw monomolecular shuriken at people.

After escaping the port Jain Zar attempts to impress upon Asurmen the necessity of more practical weapons.

In response he invents the shuriken catapult because in his mind the problem Jain Zar had was that he wasn't throwing the shuriken hard or fast enough.

As funny as Asurmen actually is the best part of the whole book doesn't even have him in it.

In a time period set during the same time as the war of the beast Jain Zar is stuck in the dark city and needs an out so she tries to charter a ship out but since she's got no slaves and the eldar give zero fucks about her status among the craftworlds the only person she can get an offer from is some seedy fuck haemonculus in a ship literally made out of still living people.

He offers her aboard the ship to discuss her payment and the exchange that follows is pic related.

we get the basic rules for the single troop for each God to stymy the endless (and deserved) bitching regarding demon's presence in KT. im guessing they'll put in flamers for tzeentch, as well as other "smaller' demons across the chaos demon range.

we'll probably get the changeling, the masque, skulltaker, and the bilepiper/ other new nurgle heralds as commanders in a future release. they probably announced these basic rules to alleviate the constant "WHY CAN'T I PLAY MY DEMONS ". (which i understand completely).

Traktor Kannons? That's a pretty good target for them if your opponent is spamming them.

Or Lootas. With the Dakka Dakka strat you ignore hit penalties and S2 hurts them on 3s which is not bad.

The relic shokkattack gun + +1 to wound against vehicles is also pretty good. You'd hurt them on 2s usually.

Also don't forget to bring your grotshields
