Yep, I was a DM when I introduced a character called Gondor. A big, green halforc, with muscles upon muscles, wearing nothing but a loincloth that seemed a bit too small to cover up. He was a complete numbskull but an honest fellow who were loyal to a fault to the party. He lived in a "house" which was nothing more than a few planks of wood slapped together, with his prized cow he let graze near the woods.
I actually made him on a whim when the party was about to lose a barfight and be held hostage by some thiefs, and in the fog cloud the Druid cast, a deep voice rang out asking of she needed help. While she was sure she thought it was her god who called out to her.
Might be a bit stale if it's a PC, but for a DMPC it's pretty fun to play a moron.
