Just got back from...turn 1 of my apocalypse game.
My opponent and I had a bit of a later start, and turn 1 ended up taking about 4 hours, so we paused it there.
If any of you do big games like that, how do you play? We agreed on a mission where, in turn 1, shooting range was limited to 24", and we had our armies split into 3. After that, we agreed to remove the tactical restraint rule - just to have shenanigans available in more of the game.
Once we started, we also agreed on alternate activations for the 3 squads our forces were split into. At first it was just so we didn't shoot the other army to pieces immediately, but man, having our squads alternate like that really added some strategy.
I split my army into tanks, monsters, and infantry, while they had a massive horde of guardians and war walkers, a fuckton of bikers, hemlocks, and wave serpents with dire avengers and banshees, and a squad of ynnari. By going first with my monsters, I was able to blow up a hemlock and kill all their jetbikes, upon which point they disembarked and caught my tank commanders in melee. Of course, I was able to use my infantry to cripple their infantry line, but the remaining troops they had ate my genestealers and patriarch.
I'd post pics but my phone is a piece of shit and not connecting to my PC, and their army wasn't painted anyway.
