I love alfs, but one player in my group seems determined to make me hate them.
It's like he read a list of all the things people hate alf players for, and built a character around them. He's arrogant, obnoxious, racist, and generally unlikable.
He constantly tries to belittle any non-alf in the group for not being an alf, uses his age as if it were some sort of merit to any argument ("I've lived two hundred years longer than you, so I'm right and you're wrong"), tries to exclude other people in the party by holding conversations in alfen.
He thinks he's witty by using "you're not an alf" like it's some generic insult and punchline, and basically acts in a way like he's being burdened by the group, rather than the reverse. It's gotten to the point where the last session ended with him sullenly running off from the rest of the group, and even the other two alf players didn't bother to try and get him to come back.
I can sort of understand why there's people who have a dislike for alfs because of players like this, but the root of the problem isn't alfs, but players who take advantage of the metaconcept that the group is basically stuck with each other, and make characters that no one would want to be around.
