Then there's really nothing left to do. This is partially your fault for not establishing early on that characters can die and imparting that point by making one of them die horrifically, preferably 1-2 sessions into the game. This is especially important with new players that have been fueled up on mary sue bullshit and horrible "RPG community teehee" podcasts and videos and shit.
