the lack of urgency
for something that we believe to be an imminent catastrophe in a couple decades why the lack of urgency?
if we as humanity got a message from an alien civilization many light years away stating they are coming to earth to destroy us in 50 to 70 years, btw heres how you can defeat us. You'd expect a serious global effort to deal with the issue.
You could even say well one or two countries dont believe the information provided. Fine... BUT what about the other countries. They know what they need to do to mount a defense and the argument can be made if the countries who are skeptical see the other countries preparing feverishly that it could be a persuasive to signal to the inhabitants of the skeptical country this is an actual serious threat that needs to be looked at closely.
If your neighbour says hey greg, this hurricane is coming is going to be really serious and devastating but all you see is do is get a few bottles of water and a beer, then you have to ask say to yourself your neighbour isnt being serious.
Contrast the same argument again, if greg states the serious and devastation of the hurricane. But you see him getting crates of water. fuel, medical supplies,an inflatable boat and survival equipment. You know greg may be acting a bit strange but something funny happens psychologically, you too begin to take the threat seriously and asking more serious questions and doing more serious research.
Instead the former scenario in my greg the neighbour scenario is happening. Nations that are known to be serious about global warming are "getting a couple bottles of water and a beer". To the outside observer It looks like very weak attempts at trying to solve a problem that is stated as being very very serious.
