First they add 3 to make it 15 so they can add 5, since adding 5 to most numbers that are a multiple of 5 is fairly easy
Then they add 5 to make it a nice even 20 so they can start increasing it by 10s, since adding 10 to multiples of 10 is pretty easy
Then they add 10 to get to 30, which is the same number of 10s as 32.
Then they add 2 to get 32.
I guess if it was like 325 - 12 it would be as follows:
12 + 3 = 15
15 + 10 = 25
25 + 300 = 325
3 + 10 + 300 = 313
I honestly don't know though
