I've heard many horror stories about the profession itself, such as it being not what you know, what you can do, or even if you care, but who you know. Like most professions, you have to play the game, rub people the right way, never challenge the system narrative, and are heavily subject to peer scrutiny,that's there to ensure you never rock the boat or go off book.

Are there genuine Archaeologists here, or people who've spoken with them in depth. and can you tell me about the down and dirty reality of what its like? I have a burning passion for it, I actually care about history and I want to do all I can to uncover, protect, and preserve it.
