captive species tend to be dumber and less aggressive than their wild relatives, I'm dubious of this idea. though it would create an enforced form of group selection on tje slave class it's not a particularly effective way to select for creativity

I mean H. sapiens seems to be /between/ chimp and H. erectus. Which is weird, becasue we would have to evolve one way first, and then nearly exactly backwards, which seems improbable.

Evolution isn’t a progression toward betterment, despite what the word suggests in modern English.
Coyotes are perfectly evolved, they can live anywhere, tundra, desert, woods. Does that make them "more evolved"?

You miss the point of the question. It seems that erectus evolved certain arms, but sapiens evolved back to resemble apes. That seems weird. If it was a good adaptation for erectus, why not for us?, and how did it happen to be exactly backwards?

I don't think the 'nothing is more evolved' meme makes sense anyway, some species are obviously more evolved as demonstrated by invasive species.
