>And what subfield are you looking for?It varies a lot, I have worked on inventions ranging from sewage systems to acoustics. You really have to be versatile. Most firms need people in physics, some electronics, a lot in mechanical engineering. There is less need for chemistry, biology, genetics, pharmacy etc.
Also on the "other side" of the table the patent offices need people. If you are in Europe and also are comfortable in many languages, you can get a well paid job in EPO. EPO has thousands of Examiners and just to keep up with retirement they need to recruit hundreds every year.
