Does /sci/ recommend any particular books that cover what McKenna called "Machine Elves" or any science pbooks that have a comprehensive study of groups through out the world that have gone through desperate attempts to gain knowledge from these entities or to obtain Eternal Life through them?

When I look for things they are riddled with stoner-tier theories and cults that completely missed the mark and don't take a rigorous look at the elites, academics and religious institutions in this unexplained experience that is apparently shared around the world.
