>>10467527Because, like homosexuality, there ARE individuals for whom gender mismatch is a genetic condition. This is noted (and detectable) by letting the child develop naturally at a pace they feel comfortable exploring themselves. At some point, very early on, they will start to realize they are different, and talk about it. Naturally. This doesn't need to be set in motion via the nurturer, the child knows their own mind.
Stories like those become the forefront of the meme surrounding the politics of plastic surgery. The idea that it's genetic for a specific subset of the population, and non-genetic for a more suggestible subset isn't liked, because it would involve acknowledging the presence of hypnosis, and the role it plays in superstition. People admire superstition, and don't like to be told that 90% of their opinions are rooted firmly and exclusively in the concept. Social change feels like a nicer idea.
It's not whether it's hard to grasp as a concept or not, it's the reality of it that's hard to deal with. It means we need to rethink how we think about social issues. That comes with a high price.
It comes at the price of faith.
Had "faith" not been memed for thousands of years, we'd be a teeny tiny bit further along in the study of psychology. Because we would've developed a natural immunity to the concept.

My results are independent and my experiment reproducible. If you want to move past this, you have to address me as a psychopath. This isn't an ego play on my part, this is just an arbitrary consideration to see if anyone takes the bait. It might be possible to explain my method, but I'd rather avoid leaving the risk unstated.
