no, you dont pass. you have to study, then you will pass your exams
but to pass in many courses, there is no "exam", there is simply a popularity contest i.e. whoever you are assigned to, has to like you enough to not let you fail
this is common in europe as well .
in other words: if you piss somebody off, or they simply dislike you, they can say you acted "unprofessionally", you lack "empathy" and so on
almost every med school has these courses where you are at the mercy of whoever you are assigned to
it sucks and i almost failed out because of it in my first year

It's a practical course so there are lots of vivas/OSCEs. It's not uncommon for people to fail and have to repeat a semester or year. Assuming they have the knowledge/studied well, this is usually either because they're not naturally good with nerves/taking an exam in that way, or because they do something so far from acceptable that they have to be failed (later on it moves more towards interacting with real patients with a supervisor, and I've heard of people telling someone they have a terminal illness without discussion with the supervisor).

They deserve it. They're doing something inhuman (claiming to study massive amounts of material, more than any group in history) to achieve a certification of supposed high-quality. It turns into a shit show of grandstanding, cheating, lying, etc, that perverses other fields now (more than half of one of my third-year classes was caught cheating and they did nothing). "Doctors" should spend 3-4 years learning human anatomy and overviewing biological systems, then spend another two years learning to refer to digitized and reference material, and "statistifying" data properly. Think about other programs: after year four, they usually specialize in one or a mix of sub-fields. Mathematicians study one field or branch, theoretical physicists work on programming and one set of knowledge, engineers work on one subsets of current problems, programmers specialize in a few models or areas. You wouldn't expect a Mechanical Engineer to be good at architecture AND nanoscale structures, you wouldn't expect a programmer to be versed in computer networks AND designing processors, etc. "Doctors" are a farce created by rich bastards that want to ensure their kids are set for life. A new caste, for a new age. Even a fucking lawyer has to use a computer these days, and most use natural language interpreters to search through case law. How can we believe Doctors are experts when they don't need to have the computer doing most of the work?

yeah I could have made it in but I put my major above medicine and got into that instead. My major is harder to get into than medicine. But it's harder for us to get a job and we actually need good grades in college to get a job later. Med students cruise to their job as long as they get through
