Depression isn't a made-up disease and antidepressants actually work.
The problem you have about the principle of 'arbitrarily' giving a name to a group of symptoms doesn't invalidate the whole thing.
That guy suffering from melancholic depression who finally went up from its chair to go kill himself because the drug gave him enough of a boost to do it didn't have a "made-up disease" and didn't do that because of the placebo effect.
