Where does the melanin go during vitiligo? I'm a brainlet so I'm thinking it gets used up as energy for the body.

They die and the contents of the cell get phagocytized. Vitiligo is primarily autoimmune /aberrant pro-inflammatory meditated destruction of the skin cells (melanocytes) that produce pigment (melanin).

Vitiligo is highly associated with other autoimmune tissue destruction disorders such as Addisons, T1DM, Hashimotos, etc.
