>>10217738Oh, boy, an excuse to rant. Have you ever heard of the tragedy of Darth anon the autist? A story old as time, he wielded the test tubes like no other, but, in the end, he was killed by politics.
Freshly dropped out. I'm forwarding my resignation next week, as a christmas present for myself.
I fulfilled the requirements several times over, working on the final touches on my thesis, but I just couldn't deal with the bootlicking anymore.
About a year ago another group asked for my help. Somewhat basic stuff, unrelated with my main research, did it in a few days in my free time. It led to two papers being published, that included me as co-author. I didn't think much of it.
In the last few months, my superviser entered into an egomaniacal feud with one of the leaders of the other group. I'm sure most PhDs are familiar with the phenomenon, but this one was amazingly virulent, down to accusations of mental illness and fund embezzlement. Anyway, my superviser found those two articles and decided I'm in cahoots with the other guys, or something. He threw a massive tantrum, calling me a two faced scheemer, dishonourable, unethical, and so on. Tried to explain the situation, he kept repeating "I do NOT understand". So I thanked him for his time, turned around and left. Didn't even bother to remind him he put his son as co-author on my papers for fucking proofreanding them.
Some of the faculty called me a few times, kept telling me to plea and reason with him, even though they think I didn't do anything wrong, that they were planning to give me tenure starting next autumn, and so on. But I really don't need to join this toxic orgy of old farts.
So in january I'm starting work as a bland, unremarkable MD again. I'll root for you guys in your fight for the expansion of human knowledge, as I pop open a cold one over a barbecue.
