You could talk about the origin of the scientific method, and then the superior validity of that type of methodology in solving problems, as opposed to some of the former methods that existed to describing the nature of the world.

Is this the type of structure you're looking for?

and then just go through everything yoU did during your entire weekend in enough detail to fill 3000 words and at the end say "while the activities described above are an extremely small subset of all possible ineffective paper writing methods, we may fairly conclude that not forgetting the assignment would have led to better results"
