Both oil and natural gas are hydrocarbons. Methane (CH4) and Butane (C4H10) are gasses, where as Hexane (C6H14) and Octane (C8H18) are liquids as example.
There is no such thing as a pure natural gas field and pure oil fields. All sources of hydrocarbons in the ground have both oil and gas, usually the gas sits at the top with oil beneath.
