This is why I love & respect non degenerate 2d animators : high skill ceiling, cheating is way harder to do (most of the time rotoscoping or copying someone else's work is easily noticeable). You Need to know what you're doing when you animate stuff & you need to put in work.

Everything considered I think it's better to be known for something rather than nothing at all.

While you will probably never step out of that shadow at least you had your chance in the spotlight while there are thousands out there who would kill to have that sort of attention.

It depends on what kind of cartoon you're making. Something like Akira or Theif and the Cobbler visually look more impressive because the artists behind them were dedicated to the craft. They took it a step above mainstream kids cartoons.
