Any advice on designing/drawing fantasy armor and outfits? I'm not looking towards making it as an artist or anything, but from time to time I enjoy doodling character concepts and I want to get better at it. The problem is that very often I'm split on what kind of style I should go for, how realistic it should be, what sort of references I should look at and eventually it either turns into a hot mess or an overly generic ripoff of an existing design. Pic related is one of my favorite character designers when it comes to humans in armor. I really like how his designs manage to look both fantastic and retro sci-fi at the same, sorta like the older final fantasies do.
