The rat is backlit, is a common thing for manga ilustration to give a tiny splash of light in the nose to anime character men/female and others despite the actual lightning.
Dont know why, just know they do that.

I believe he is "powering up" here, so they'll usually like surfaces facing away from the middle of the forms.
